(N/A) Misuse of drugs is often practiced by certain sportspersons to enhance their performance.
They use narcotic analgesics, anabolic steroids, diuretics, and certain hormones in sports to increase muscle strength and bulk, promote aggressiveness, and consequently improve athletic performance.
The side effects of using anabolic steroids in females include masculinisation (development of male-like features),increased aggressiveness, mood swings, depression, abnormal menstrual cycles, excessive hair growth on the face and body, enlargement of the clitoris, and deepening of the voice.
In males, side effects include acne, increased aggressiveness, mood swings, potential for kidney and liver dysfunction, breast enlargement (gynecomastia),premature baldness, and enlargement of the prostate gland.
These effects may become permanent with prolonged use. In adolescent males or females, severe facial and body acne and the premature closure of the growth centers of the long bones may result in stunted growth.
